The number of victims was so great that a law prohibiting gambling was enacted. Only in 1978 was Atlantic City able to regain permission for gambling establishments. This affected its status as the second-largest gambling city in the USA.

Additionally, gambling houses developed near the Mexican border until the 20th century, and by the 1920s, they were gaining popularity and spreading throughout the country. Like in other countries, at the peak of their popularity, all forms of gambling were prohibited in the early 20th century, lasting until the mid-70s.

Only the state of Nevada had legal access to opening gambling houses, which quickly began developing this business in Las Vegas and Reno. The first modern-style casino was opened in Las Vegas in 1931. Today, Las Vegas is one of the world's largest entertainment and gambling centers. Additionally, gambling is well-developed in New Orleans and Atlantic City.

The Emergence of Native American Casinos

In 1988, Ronald Reagan passed a law allowing casinos on Native American reservations. It granted permission for the organization and conduct of only three types of gambling: their traditional games, classic casino games, and all variations of lotteries.

For the latter type, a contract with the state must be signed, and the necessary tax must be paid regularly, while for the first two, all the money goes directly to the tribe. This brings tribes a significant amount of money, with over 15 billion dollars being generated in Native American gambling houses in 2005 alone. In California, just seven tribes own slightly more than 50 casinos with an annual profit of over six billion dollars. This enables tribes to sustain and develop themselves independently, sending younger generations to prestigious institutions and fully funding their scholarships.
