Love is different: mutual, unrequited, forbidden.... The latter category includes such a manifestation of feelings as homosexuality. Same-sex love has been and continues to be a subject of severe societal oppression. Harassment, bullying, lack of acceptance and misunderstanding by friends and relatives is only a small part of what same-sex couples have to endure.

The problem is reflected in movies. The makers of these films try to show the life of such people from the inside, their feelings and thoughts, and prove that love is a condition that sometimes occurs even between two men.

"Call Me by Your Name (2017).

The action of the film takes the viewer to picturesque places in Italy, in the early eighties. An American student named Oliver arrives at the estate of a prominent architect. Oliver stays at the architect's estate and takes up residence in his son Elio's room. Elio has a girlfriend, Marzia. They have fun together, and the young man is not happy that he has to put up with the presence of a stranger in the house. But, in time, the young man begins to experience feelings for the American. They develop a relationship, but can the lovers be together?

"Asylum" (2007).

A young boy named Zach has just graduated from high school. He has a whole summer ahead of him to choose what to be and where to go to school. Zach has a talent for art. He's not bad at drawing and loves to do it. But the boy has to give up his studies, because his family needs his help. Zach takes care of his father, his own sister, and her son Cody. Zach's normal routine changes when his best friend's brother, Sean, comes to town. Sean is from Hollywood. He is gay and not ashamed of it. The guys start spending more time together, especially since they share a hobby, surfing. Over time, Zach begins to have mixed feelings about his new acquaintance, and a chance kiss puts everything in perspective.

"Sex of Angels (2012).

Co-produced by Brazil and Spain, tells the story of a young couple, Carla and Bruno. They are in love and happy with each other. Everything changes in one meeting that turns the young people's world upside down. Bruno meets Rey. Rey is a rebel, bright, mysterious, alluring. Not for a moment does Ray leave Bruno's mind, and the guy decides to succumb to this hitherto unknown feeling.

"My Own Private Idaho" (1991).

A road drama by elitist American director Gasom Van Santon. The story centers on two young men of pleasant looks. Mike and Scott embark on a road trip in search of Mike's birth mother. Mike is penniless, suffers from narcolepsy and has fond feelings for Scott. Mike is a homosexual. And he moonlights by selling himself to random hitchhikers. Scott, on the other hand, is rich and is the son of the mayor of Portland. But his spirit of contradiction and adolescent maximalism drives him to rebellion. And his rebellion is also expressed in prostitution, even though he is heterosexual. Fate leads the boys to Italy, where Scott falls in love with a girl...

"Brokeback Mountain (2005)

An incredibly candid story of the beginnings of love between two brutal cowboys. The picture has won a lot of prestigious awards and prizes, and the roles of lovers were played by H. Ledger and Gyllenhaal.

The connection between the two men takes place in picturesque locations where the cowboys go to herd sheep. The picturesque scenery, peacefulness, and alcohol help the characters realize that they are in love with each other. But soon the lovers have to break up. Each tries to live a normal life, have families, but they are just as strongly attracted to each other.
